
Liske Potgieter, an ECCC alumnus, is a fourth-year music student at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, where she studies voice with Lionel van Zyl. In addition to being the choir's resident soloist, she also acts as repetitor during rehearsals.
She has a passion for musical theatre and has been cast in various productions since the age of 13.
In 2008 she featured at the PE Opera House as Monica in the Menotti opera The Medium, produced by the NMMU Music Department. In February 2010 she performed the soprano role in Bach’s St John’s Passion in Cape Town and Stellenbosch alongside renowned co-soloists, with the Würzburg Tiepolo Ensemble, the Kammerchor am Würzburger Dom and the Stellenbosch-based Schola Cantorum, and under the baton of German conductor Martin Berger. Later that same year she was invited to participate in the Unisa Bursary Competition in Pretoria, following a high distinction achieved in her grade 8 Unisa voice examination.
During 2011 she collaborated with pianist Mariel Ilusorio in a programme of Russian vocal music performed in Port Elizabeth and Grahamstown, and also shared the PE Opera House stage with acclaimed tenor Stefan Louw in Aria, a celebration of operatic aria and chorus hosted by the PE Oratorio Choir. In August 2011 she was also selected to participate in the prestigious ATKV Muziqanto competition.
Liske has received numerous accolades over the years, including various EP Herald Showtime Awards for her involvement in musical theatre, winning the vocal section of the East Cape Youth Music Competition in 2007, NMMU merit bursaries for overall academic excellence in 2009, 2010 and 2011, and Charles Bryars scholarships for vocal performance in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
