Eastern Cape Children's Choir - South Africa
Established in 1982, the Eastern Cape Children’s Choir (ECCC) has provided hundreds of talented children between the ages of 11 and 15 with the opportunity of performing musically and technically challenging music on a variety of stages, both nationally and internationally.
Under the directorship of Lionel van Zyl (conductor since 1986) the choir has not only undertaken nine successful international concert tours, performing in some of Europe and Scandinavia’s most beautiful cathedrals and concert halls, but is also regarded as an important event on the local music calendar, where they perform regularly. Performances are often shared with international children’s and youth choirs of high calibre such as the Mainzer Dom Boys' and Girls' Choir and the Halle Children’s Choir, as well as with South African Choirs such as the Tygerberg Children’s Choir and the NMMU Chorale. Visitors are usually hosted by the ECCC choristers.
While accomplished performers of a cappella music, the children’s musical experience is further enriched through performing with a variety of orchestras, such as the CAPAB and East Cape Philharmonic, musical ensembles from harp to French horns, as well as soloists.
The choir has appeared on local and international television a number of times and their seventh CD is due for release in 2009.
During the choir’s 2008 tour to Germany, Finland and Estonia, the value of having a dedicated feeder choir for the ECCC was again highlighted and the decision made to start a Young Children’s Choir. Led by well-known soloist and voice lecturer Lucretia Geswint, and supported by Lionel van Zyl as musical director, the Eastern Cape Junior Children’s Choir is set to be a valuable addition to the ECCC in 2009 and beyond. Children who are too young for the ECCC (7-10 years of age) will learn proper voice habits and choir and concert etiquette in a friendly environment, preparing them for the more exacting demands of the ECCC and thereby allowing the ECCC to achieve even higher standards.

Oos-Kaapse Kinderkoor
Die Oos-Kaapse Kinderkoor, gestig in 1982, het reeds aan honderde talentvolle kinders tussen die ouderdom van 11 en 15 jaar die geleentheid gebied om op nasionale en internasionale verhoë musikaal en tegnies veeleisende koormusiek uit te voer.
Onder leiding van Lionel van Zyl (dirigent sedert 1986) het die koor nie alleen nege suksesvolle internasionale konserttoere onderneem waartydens daar in Europa en Skandinavië se indrukwekkendste katedrale en konsertsale opgetree is nie, maar speel die koor jaarliks ook ‘n belangrike rol op die plaaslike musiekfront. Optredes tuis word dikwels gedeel met uitstaande internasionale kinder- en jeugkore soos die Mainzer Dom Seuns- en Meisieskore, en die Estlandse TV Koor, asook Suid-Afrikaanse kore soos die Tygerberg Kinderkoor en die NMMU Chorale. Besoekers word gewoonlik deur die OKKK gehuisves.
Die kinders se musikale ervaring strek wyd: van die sing van a cappella musiek, uitvoerings saam met soliste of ensembles (wat instrumente soos harpe en franse horings insluit) tot optredes met volle orkeste soos die Oos-Kaapse Filharmoniese orkes.
Die Oos-Kaapse Kinderkoor het al etlike kere op plaaslike sowel as internasionale televisie verskyn. Die vrystelling van die koor se sewende CD word vir 2009 beplan.
Tydens die 2008 toer na Duitsland, Finland en Estland, het die behoefte aan ‘n voedingskoor vir die OKKK weer na vore gekom. Daar is besluit om ‘n juniorkoor o.l.v. die bekende mezzosopraan en sangdosent, Lucretia Geswint, ondersteun deur Lionel van Zyl as artistieke direkteur, te stig. Die Oos-Kaapse Junior Kinderkoor sal jong kinders, tussen 7 en 10 jaar, in ‘n vriendelike omgewing voorberei vir die meer veeleisende Oos-Kaapse Kinderkoor deur aan hulle korrekte sanggewoontes asook koor- en konsertetiket te leer. Sodoende sal die Oos-Kaapse Kinderkoor selfs hoër standaarde kan behaal.
